Accessibility
Clover is built so every student can find scholarships and internships that fit them. Here is how we support assistive technologies and our commitments going forward.
Supported features
Clover supports the following accessibility features on both iPhone and iPad:
VoiceOver
Every interactive element in Clover has a descriptive accessibility label that VoiceOver reads aloud. Swipe cards, action buttons, navigation tabs, and modal dialogs are all announced. The reading order follows the visual hierarchy. Users can navigate the discover deck, save scholarships, draft essays, and complete sign-up entirely through VoiceOver.
Voice Control
All controls in Clover have accessible names so Voice Control can target them with show numbers and standard verbal commands like "Tap Save," "Open Profile," or "Swipe right." Custom gestures used in the swipe deck have equivalent button alternatives so Voice Control users never need to rely on a swipe gesture.
Differentiate Without Color Alone
Clover never relies on color alone to communicate status. Match scores combine color with a pill count and a written label ("4 / 5 Matched"). Streak day boxes pair color with a flame icon for completed days. Selected segments use color plus a bold border and weight change. Error states pair red color with an icon and explicit text.
Sufficient Contrast
All text and meaningful UI elements meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and UI components). Our primary brand green is used at #16A34A on white backgrounds for text and pairs with white text on darker greens for buttons. Secondary text uses #6B7280 on white for a 5.7:1 ratio.
Supported devices
The accessibility features listed above apply to:
- iPhone (iOS 16 and later)
- iPad (iPadOS 16 and later)
What we are working on
Areas of active improvement:
- Dynamic Type. We are expanding support for the system's larger text sizes across all screens, with a target of full support across every flow.
- Reduced Motion. Honoring the system's Reduce Motion preference for swipe card animations and progress indicators.
- Switch Control. Validating the full app flow with Switch Control on iOS.
